Green building is a construction practice concerned with energy consumption and the environment. View http://www.globalgreen.org for more information.

This philosophy is a growing trend in the building industry. Our antique lumber is obtained from old barns/structures that have been torn down. New trees are not cut down (and wouldn't be near as beautiful) to obtain the lumber.

Often used in trim, doors, and flooring, wormy chestnut is a "distressed" antique lumber that is valuable. chesnutlumber

The cause of wormy chestnut is well known. The larvae of the chestnut timber borer (a small, brown beetle) spent several years of their lives nourishing themselves as they gnawed tunnels through the wood of standing chestnut trees. The adults emerged about the time the chestnuts bloom, flying directly free from the tree to mingle and mate. The females deposited eggs in the cracks in the bark and, life’s duty done, all soon expired. The beetles had a feeding frenzy on the dead and dying chestnut trees smitten by the blight.
