Building a Home with Reclaimed Barn Wood Features

Foyer with Barn Doors and Office with Window Seat

Thank you for stopping by to read the second blog post in my home-building journey, which highlights design features infused with Whatman Hardwood’s reclaimed barn wood.

Sliding barn doors captured my heart! When I encountered Whatman Hardwood’s reclaimed barn wood doors adorned with large wheel hardware and horseshoes, I knew they had to be part of my home. As you step through my front door, you’re greeted by two rustic barn doors on either side. One opens to a cozy guest room, while the other leads to my cozy office. Whatman Hardwoods also transformed one of the barn beams from my dad’s barn into an accent beam over the foyer entry, beautifully unifying the space. The foyer radiates warmth and rustic charm, creating a welcoming entrance into my home.

My office is a sanctuary that nurtures calm and creativity. The reclaimed barn wood window seat offers a perfect spot to sit and read or to observe nature as I contemplate new projects. Functional handmade bookshelves embrace the window seat, while drawers underneath provide space for larger items like photography equipment, backpacks, and sizable photo albums. Cabinets keep essentials like my printer and scanner out of sight, ensuring easy access when needed.
Tim took my drawings and made them a reality, offering insights into the height and width of the window seat for the perfect fit. I’ve chosen a narrow twin mattress as the cushion for the seat; it offers comfort for lounging while remaining practical enough for an occasional sleepover. This room inspires creativity and productivity, embodying functionality and efficiency in every corner.
